Prerequisites

Prior to enrolling in Confidentiality in Practice, you must have completed the specified prerequisites (if you have not taken a prerequisite, you can click on the catalog code link to see a list of upcoming course sections):

General Confidentiality Principles

This 25-minute online module provides home visitors with an overview of legal, ethical and professional concerns in relation to protecting client confidentiality. It introduces basic best practices and provides a guideline for addressing confidentiality concerns at an agency level. The training gives home visitors practical information on how to properly handle information and when to follow mandatory reporting guidelines.

Confidentiality Laws

This 25-minute online module focuses on the legal implications of HIPAA, FERPA and 42 CFR part 2 to the home visitor. It addresses the laws' requirements for maintaining confidentiality, including what information is considered confidential and under what circumstances and to whom a home visitor may be required to disclose client information.
