This 45-minute online module provides an introduction to culture and how it may impact work with families. It includes tools for self-assessment and strategies to increase one's own cultural competence. The module discusses strategies for responding to culturally-based parenting practices that are unfamiliar to the home visitor. The module also discusses the importance competence in communicating effectively and convey information in a way that is understood, by people with limited English proficiency. Finally, the module includes information and a video describing techniques for working with a language interpreter to deliver a home visit.
