The Frontier Culture Museum of Virginia, formerly known as the Museum of American Frontier Culture, is alive, well, and growing. Many who live in the Shenandoah Valley remember the swirl of excitement that came with the museum's beginning and then, perhaps, lost track of it as other exciting endeavors grabbed their attention. This course explores the origins of the museum and its evolution into the unique cultural and educational resource it is today. A field trip to the museum will be included.

Instructor: Eric Bryan is currently the Director of Internal Operations and Interim Agency Head at the Frontier Culture Museum of Virginia, where he has worked for eighteen years. He is a life-long student of the past and of American frontier culture and its characteristics. His work at the museum and his interests have allowed him to dig deep into the institution's origins and the nature of its mission, and to apply what he's learned to directing its operations.
