Description

This class will teach the basic principles of homebrewing beer, and the ingredients that go into it. Students will learn the various techniques one can use, in order to adjust to time, space and/or money restraints when brewing at home. Class will also go over some of the more popular beer styles and what makes them taste the way they do. During the course of the class the group will make an actual batch of beer, which students will have the option to return to The Friendly Fermenter and pick up their share when it is done.

Instructor: Shawn Gatesman is originally from Northwestern PA, and came to the Valley in 1998 after graduation from Indiana University of PA. Though much of his career was in the veterinary industry, Shawn started homebrewing in 2013 and quickly realized he had a significant passion for it and wanted to take it beyond a hobby. He could see that people interested in homebrewing needed a catalyst to explore the hobby. He now owns and operates "The Friendly Fermenter" in Harrisonburg, a homebrewing shop and nanobrewery. TFF also offers on-site brewing for the customers.

Additional Fees: $25.00 payable to the instructor at the first class for supplies and tastings.
