Description

Falls threaten safety and independence of older Americans. There is research that tai chi has health benefits including reduction in falls, improvements in strength, balance, flexibility mobility, bone density, sleep problems, hypertension and depression. Equally important, tai chi is fun, relaxing and can benefit mental health. This course introduces you to exercises that illustrate important basic principles of tai chi: posture, breathing, relaxed seeing, and focusing energy flow from your center. The class exercises can be done sitting or standing, wearing comfortable clothes and shoes.

Instructor: Dr. Helmut Hirsch, PhD, is a retired Professor of Biology at State University of New York at Albany and studied tai chi for many years at the Asian Arts Group (Albany, NY).
