Description

Learn about the history of choral music, hear recordings and participate in a singalong! Each session delves into a different aspect of choral music: English Cathedral music from Elizabeth I to Elizabeth II features works written for specific buildings, ensembles and events; All Roads Lead to Bach centers on works by Johann Sebastian Bach and his ancestors and composers who were influenced by Bach; Community Choruses looks at choral music written for municipal ensembles; Opera Choruses focuses on choruses from the infancy of opera to today; and Hymnody reaches into the rich tradition of choral music created for congregations to sing during worship.

Instructor: Kimberlea Daggy hosts All Things Considered on WMRA and Airplay on WEMC. She has been a public radio host/producer since 1990, and worked for the Classical Public Radio Network, KUSC in Los Angeles and WFDD in Winston-Salem, NC, before coming to WMRA/WEMC in 2015. Kimberlea has given scores of pre-performance lectures for various organizations in the country, including Los Angeles Opera, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Ojai Music Festival and the American Guild of Organists.

Additional Fee: $5.00 payable to the course assistant at the first class. I give CDs to each student of the music that is heard in each class. The blank CDs cost about $1 per student per class.
