Description

Eastern Mennonite University is celebrating 100 years of education in 2017-18. This course will provide an overview of EMU's transformation from a small, insular academic community to an accredited university offering undergraduate and graduate degrees with global impact. This course explores the transformation of a quiet school on a hill meant to protect its students from the world, into a place engaging with, welcoming and sending alumni out into the world. This series of classes will be taught by a variety of instructors familiar with the 100 year transformation of EMU. Beginning with the history of Mennonites in the Valley, the birth of the school, becoming a university, arts, music and sciences at EMU, the Seminary and the Center for Justice and Peacebuilding will be highlighted.

Instructors: Phil Kniss, Elwood Yoder, Myron Augsburger, Lee Snyder, Don Kraybill, Jerry Holsopple, Esther Augsburger, Ken Nafziger, Jeremy Nafziger, Roman Miller, Beryl Brubaker, Nancy Heisey and Gloria Rhodes.
