American Indian Nations of the Southeast is a five-week course of lectures and discussions that focuses on the "Five Civilized Tribes" of the American Southeast--Seminole, Cherokee, Creek, Choctaw, and Chickasaw--from before European contact through the 20th century. Special attention will be paid to the Seminole Tribe of Florida. This course grew out of the first course on Seminole Indian history taught at Florida State University in 2006.

Dr. Christopher R. Versen is a former professor who is now a freelance historian. His research interests include late-nineteenth and early-twentieth century American intellectual and cultural history, the history of science, and American Indian History.
