Jordan-An Overview of its History, Geography, and People

We will travel virtually through Jordan and study its recent past including how it became a country and its neighbors. The instructor's spouse will give a distaff view of the 1970's Jordan. We will study stone tools from Jordan's prehistoric Paleolithic, Mesolithic, and Neolithic periods during a short visit to the JMU Madison Art Collection. The stone tools will lead us to the sites where they were found and a whirlwind tour of Jordan's Desert Castles and tourist sites of Petra, Jerash, and Wadi Rum. All topics will be interwoven with personal experiences from the instructors' time living in Amman and their interactions with the Jordanian Royal family, U.S. political leaders and media personalities.

Instructor: Larry Davis has his MBA from Syracuse University and lived in Jordan from 1973 to 1976. He was assigned to the American Embassy in Amman and had daily contact with Jordanian citizens, both military and civilians. Larry is a retired U.S. Army Colonel with 26-½ years active duty. He served in many foreign and domestic locations, including the Pentagon.
