Modern Chinese View on the Performing Arts

This course will be an interactive look at how the traditional and contemporary performing arts are viewed in today's China. The class will involve looking at various video excerpts of work being done in China, as well as examples of classical performing arts forms being practiced today in the country. Students will be asked to do their own online research after the first session to be brought to the second session and viewed and discussed with the group.

Instructor: Shane O'Hara, professor of dance at JMU, has choreographed and performed throughout the United States and Europe. He was named a JMU Madison Scholar in 2010 and received the Provost Award for International Education in 2014. He has visited and taught in China in the summers of 2008 and 2011. In the summer of 2013, he directed the JMU Sichuan Dance Project.

Withdrawal/Refund Policy: You may cancel your registration up to one week before the class start date, and receive a full refund (minus any credit card processing fees.) After that date, no refunds will be given.
