No charge for informational session. Registration with LLI required.
800 N Main St, Harrisonburg
"Brothers Craft Brewing (originally Three Brothers Brewing) was founded by the three Shifflett siblings, who used their collective experience to execute a singular vision: brew exciting, unique craft beers that emphasize and support our community. Brothers sponsor Cask for a Cause, a monthly charity event that allows us to work with local non-profit organizations to create a one-time-only exclusive brew, offered on the 3rd Friday of the month." - from https://www.brotherscraftbrewing.com/ Brothers has graciously allowed JMU Lifelong Learning to be the non-profit for October. The proceeds will be directed to the Outreach and Engagement's Adult Degree Program, designed for working adults who want to complete a bachelor's degree. The first class is on Tuesday, October 3, when we meet at the Brothers Craft Brewery (the historic former Harrisonburg Coca-Cola plant) to see the brewery, learn of the process, and decide on the special LLI recipe we would like to have produced in our cask. Then on Friday, October 20, come out to try our LLI cask as it is tapped. Sales from each pint sold from the cask will go to the adult degree scholarship program. Come to Brothers Brewery for one, or both events and support a worthy cause!

Meet at Grand Caverns, 5 Grand Caverns Blvd., Grottoes
Spend the afternoon where you will get the true caving experience and have the time your life! Grand Caverns was discovered in 1804 by Bernard (Barnette) Weyer. Weyers Cave, renamed Grand Caverns in 1926, opened for tours in 1806, making it the oldest continually operating show cave in the U.S. It is a Natural National Landmark show cave located in Grottoes, Virginia. Our day will include geology and history discussion, explanation and instruction of equipment, and spelunking activity. We will then explore Fountain Cave, a previous commercial cave that has not been open to the public for almost 100 years! There are no lights inside the cavern and the only thing that remains is a once used 1800's pathway.
