F18A23 Five More Operas and the Times That Made Them
This course will focus on five operas that had particular social or political impact at the time they were written: Handel's Julius Caesar, Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro, Donizetti's Anna Bolena, Strauss's Salome, and Gershwin's Porgy and Bess.Instructor: Dr. Don Rierson, the Director of the James Madison University Opera Theater, is a graduate of UNC-CH and The Florida State University. Dr. Rierson had an extensive career in Europe and the US, and recently won the JMU Alumni Emeriti Award for his work with the Opera program.
