F18A6 American Women at War

This course examines the experiences of American military women in times of war. Topics include: They Fought Like Demons: Women in the American Civil War; Free a Man to Fight: The Women's Army Corps in World War II; and Changing Battlefields: Women in 21st Century Combat. The course includes a visit to the Army Women's Museum in Fort Lee, VA, and Called to Duty: A Women Combat Veteran's Panel Discussion.

Instructor: Amelia Underwood graduated from West Point in 1987 with a Bachelors of Science degree and a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Army. Amelia earned her Master of Arts degree in U.S. History and is pursuing her Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership. Amelia serves as an Adjunct Professor in the JMU Department of Military Science and in the JMU Honors College. Her courses include American Military History, and American Women at War among others.

Additional Fee: The field trip to the Army Women's Museum at Fort Lee, VA, will require transportation fees to be determined. There are no admission fees to the museum.
