F18B18 Your Roots are Showing: The Southern Origins of Rock & Roll Muxic

Hop in the front seat, with Rev. Billy C. Wirtz and Bob Driver for a ride down the backroads, as we explore the origins of Rock & Roll in the South after World War II. We'll visit Blues singers on the Chitlin' Circuit, Hillbilly Dance halls, and the spirit-filled music of the Gospel Programs. From Elvis to James Brown, from Muddy Waters to Hank Williams, from Patsy Cline to Shirley Ceasar, with music, videos, and one-of -a-kind backstories, Rev. Billy and Robert will present an awesome look at great American music that you won't forget.

Instructor: William Wirths AKA Rev. Billy C. Wirtz has been studying, playing, and teaching American popular music since the age of twelve. He is known for his comedic stage act, but he is also a respected music historian, specializing in Late Twentieth Century Southern music. Bob Driver has been a blues performer/instructor for the past forty years and a full-time guitar instructor/performer since 2002. His music education began in the 1970's when he played informally with traditional bluesmen. Between 1980 and 1990 he opened for, or performed with, nationally known artists such as John Hartford, Reverend Billy Wirtz, Catfish Hodge and many others.
