F18B3 The 1970s and 80s Films See the Future
Filmmakers are always trying to show us the future. Utopian or dystopian; ugly or beautiful or a bit of both, the future is a common theme in science fiction and fantasy films. This course will use four science fiction films, which were box-office successes, as tools to probe the popular culture of these two decades and to help us understand how people thought about the future in the angst-filled years of the 1970s and 1980s. Four classes of 2 ½ hours will be offered.Instructor: Morgan Liddick is an archivist at the Augusta Military Academy Museum. He has been a U.S. Foreign Service officer in various countries and has taught US History and Western Civilization in Texas and Colorado. He writes for the Waynesboro News-Virginian.
