Modern Irish Music

This course will explore Irish music as it evolved from the 1950's to the 1990's. We will look at the influence of British music, American Folk and the Blues. We will listen to iconic bands and musicians like Van Morrison, The Horslips, the Pogues, U2, Rory Gallagher, Clannad, Sinead O'Connor, The Corrs and many more. We will look at the ways that musicians responded to cultural or historical influences they encountered or resisted them, and how they became part of the global music scene.
