Virginia Transportation Museum and National D-Day Memorial
We invite you to travel south with us enjoying the fall foliage along the way to Roanoke, Virginia, to the Virginia Transportation Museum. This is a large collection of all types of modes of transportation including cars, trains, etc. Much of the collection is outside and we recommend comfortable walking shoes and clothing appropriate for outdoor temperatures. A self-guided tour will enable you to view the displays as you walk along. We will have approximately 2 hours for the tour. There are several restaurants within walking distance where we will enjoy our “Dutch Treat” lunch. We will plan to board the Bus at 1:30 PM, to begin the journey north to Bedford, Virginia, where we will visit the National D-Day Memorial. Upon arrival we will break into smaller groups and will be have a guided tour of the Memorial. This is an out-door display and we will be walking the grounds for the tour. During WWII, the town of Bedford lost the largest number of soldiers of any community in the United States. This Memorial was built to memorialize this fact and to remember the sacrifice of this small Virginia town. We plan to depart Bedford at 5 p.m. and arrive back in Harrisonburg around 6 p.m..Please contact our office regarding availability of this course:
