Blue Ridge Potter
Blue Ridge Pottery was established by Alun Ward in the Blue Ridge forty years ago. We make a large variety of functional Pottery designed to be used every day. Our six-week process involves several steps which will be demonstrated to our studio visitors. These steps involve various pieces of equipment and actions for preparation of our clay and glazes to transform a lump of clay into a functional piece of art. Guests will see: • Our Pugmill that prepares clay for the demonstration of making the pieces on the Pottery wheel. • Demonstration of “throwing” Pottery on the wheel. • Trimming and finishing the pieces when they are leather hard. • Bisque firing to prepare pieces for glazing. • Demonstration of glaze dipping and deco rating. • Glaze firing and finishing on the grinder • Pricing and preparation for the shop.
