Art in the Barnyard

This class will teach some basic drawing techniques. We will create farm animal portraits using pencil sketches, composition techniques, and watercolor washes. We will also use micron pens to finalize our sketches and add watercolor layers. Each week will focus on a different farm animal: cow, goat, sheep, and chicken. We will work from photo images and create whimsical animal personalities. It will be fun and relaxing!

* Students will need to purchase the following supplies: 9x12 watercolor paper pad, basic watercolor paint set (either pan set or liquid tube), artist watercolor brushes in a smaller size, pencils for sketching (or light drawing pencils if preferred), kneadable eraser, a palette for paint mixing, sharpener, colored pencils (Prismacolor is a preferred brand), micron pen in .005 or .5 size (black ink).

Wendy Lam is a local artist who paints animals, florals, still life, and landscapes inspired by the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. She participates in many art shows and events throughout the state and exhibits at the CoArt Gallery in Staunton, Virginia.
