Community Service: Meals on Wheels Delivery -National Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week
Each year, the Valley Program for Aging Services delivers 39,000 meals on wheels to isolated older adults in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County.
As part of National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, we invite LLI members to assist with delivering meals to local homebound older adults. We will connect with seniors served by the program and learn more about senior hunger and the related threats our vulnerable neighbors face, including illness, social isolation, risk of falling, loneliness and depression. This will be a meaningful and memorable day of service.
Please plan to arrive at the Harrisonburg Senior Center located at 315 S. Dogwood Dr. (lower level of Harrisonburg First Church of the Brethren) at 9:45 am. Delivery instructions will be provided at that time. Participants will be paired together to deliver meal routes. Meal delivery will take about 90 minutes. Participants will return to the Senior Center around 11:30 am for lunch and a debriefing session with Beth Bland, Director of Senior Services for the Valley Program for Aging Services.
Price per person: $6 per person for lunch. Limited to 16 participants. Register by November 8.
