S16T7 Family Life at Monticello - the Second and Third Floors RevealedMonday, May 16, 2016
This is NOT your "I've seen it before" Monticello. So much has recently been rediscovered and developed at this iconic American treasure that you will be delighted and surprised at the expanded itinerary and new experiences. Prior to the manse tour, we will be given an exclusive introduction to Monticello's new collections by Assistant Curator of Decorative Arts at Monticello, Diane Ehrenpreis. We will then proceed with an insider's knowledge to begin our two-hour docent guided "Behind the Scenes Tour." We will break for lunch and then explore on our own the many features this National Heritage site offers. This tour is all-inclusive and entitles you to admission to all other sites at Monticello.
**Because the upper floors of Monticello can be reached only by steep, narrow stairs, this tour is not handicapped-accessible and is not recommended for individuals who may have difficulty climbing or descending stairs unassisted.
Be sure to attend the Brown Bag Lunch Behind the Scenes at Monticello: An Update from Thomas Jefferson's Mountain presented by Diane Ehrenpreis on May 3.
The tour package includes the following:
*Round-trip motor coach transportation
*Admission to Monticello and exhibitions
*Docent guided tour

Responsibility on Tours and Class Trips: The tours and class-associated field trips of the JMU-LLI require walking and the physical capability to access sites that may have structural obstacles. That responsibility includes registering a person with Lifelong Learning Institute who can and will be totally responsible for providing all assistance. That person must register as a member and pay the cost of the tour/trip.
