Music of the Baroque
This course explores the music of the Baroque era, beginning with the invention of Opera in Italy and ending with the tradition of English Oratorios. We will discuss the major stylistic trends of this period and its major composers, including Claudio Monteverdi, Arcangelo Corelli, Antonio Vivaldi, Jean-Baptiste Lully, Johann Sebastian Bach, and George Frideric Handel.Instructor: Pedro R. Aponte is an associate professor of musicology at James Madison University. He teaches courses in music history and criticism.
