The Vikings: Out of the Mist
Who were the Vikings, and what influence did they have on western culture? This course provides a historical perspective that begins with looking at the Vikings in their Scandinavian homeland and traces their journey as the first Europeans to visit and settle in North America. We will also discuss the impact the Vikings had in shaping the history of Europe, specifically focusing on France (Normandy), England, Ireland, and western Russia.
Instructor: Dr. Clarence Geier is a Professor Emeritus of Anthropology and Archaeology at James Madison University. He has taught courses on several cultures during his nearly 40-year teaching career and has six edited books to his credit.
