Fountain Cave Adventure Tour
Join us for an Adventure Tour through Fountain Cave as we stray off the beaten path and learn about Shenandoah Valley geology.
Unlike its better renowned counterpart, Grand Cavern, Fountain Cave has not been groomed with gravel paths, handrails, or electric lights. Edward Weast discovered the cave in 1835 and its namesake comes from the three freshwater pools found near the original entrance.
We will get outfitted with helmets, headlights, knee pads and gloves for our two-hour guided adventure. Participants may follow the original 1800s footpath or opt for a more authentic caving experience involving more strenuous climbing and crawling through natural spaces.
Closed-toe shoes or boots, long-sleeved shirts, and long pants are required. Flashlight recommended.
Must be 12 years or older to participate.
More details provided following registration.
Tour begins at 12:30 p.m. at 5 Grand Cavern Rd, Grottoes, VA 24441.
Price per person: $50 for adults, payable at entrance. (Register by April 12)
