Spring Fling at Blandy Experimental Farm
Join Nate Miller, professor of horticulture, and LLI member Sandra Conrad for this springtime lecture and guided walking adventure at three amazing outdoor venues: the Virginia State Arboretum, the Blandy Experimental Farm, and the G.R. Thompson State Wildlife Management Area.Participants must be able to walk unaided over moderate paths of at least two miles round-trip. A JMU Assignment of Risk Waiver is required by all and will be provided for signature on the morning of the event.
Price per person: $42 payable to LLI; $5 cash or check made payable to FOSA (The Foundation of the State Arboretum) to be collected during bus ride. Suggested $2 tip to the bus driver per person.
Bring your own lunch. Limited to 24 participants. (Register by April 19)
Itinerary:
7:45 a.m. Depart promptly from JMU Ice House Parking Lot
9:15 a.m. Approximate arrival at Blandy Experimental Farm
9:30 a.m. Staff Lecture
10:00 a.m. Horticulturalist guided walks, plant trails, herb garden, herbaceous border, and boxwood areas by Nate Miller.
12:00 p.m. Bring a brown bag picnic lunch and water. Drinks, fresh fruit, and a homemade dessert will be provided by Sandra.
12:45 p.m. Depart promptly to G. R. Thompson State Wildlife Management Area
1:30 p.m. Hike the woodland trails guided by Professor Nate Miller
3:00 p.m. Depart for Harrisonburg
4:00 p.m. Approximate arrival at JMU Ice House Parking Lot
