Beginning Ukulele

This Introductory class will explore the parts of this four-string instrument, tuning, strumming and finger-picking techniques, basic note reading and chord playing. Before the end of the first class, students will be singing and playing one, two, and three-finger chords. Each class will focus on new chord ‘families,’ applying these chord progressions to songs from folk, rock, blues, country and classical styles. Members of the Shenandoah Valley Ukulele Players (SVUP) will assist in the class, providing ensemble support. Students are required to have a ukulele (soprano, concert or tenor), along with a portable music stand and a digital tuner. All instructional materials will be provided by the instructor. The SVUP has a limited number of loaner ukuleles for any student in need.

PAULA FAIR earned a Masters in Music from James Madison University and taught elementary, middle and high school instrumental music in Indiana and Virginia.
