A17 Early American Dance

This course is meant for those who wish to dance the genteel early American dances of the 1700's and the 1800's. The historical background of the dances, etiquette, and period clothing will be included in this non-lecture course. Early American dances include line, circle and square sets with an occasional waltz and polka. All dances are "called" so no previous dance experience is necessary. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes, and singles are most welcome.

Instructors: Tom and Lesley Mack founded the Shenandoah Valley Civil War Era Dancers, an all-volunteer, non-profit group whose main goal is battlefield land preservation. Since forming in 2012, they have raised and donated over $30,000 to a variety of historically-minded organizations, such as the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation. Married for 44 years, the Macks are retired elementary school teachers with a passion for dance, history and gardening.
