Augusta Springs and the Garden of the Fitts in the Churchville Area

Raindate: September 7
Goodbye to Summer.
Before Fall officially begins, take time to savor the last days of summer outdoors. Visit the private garden of a couple who changed their bland two acres into a beauty spot with multiple flower beds and borders, shrubs and trees. They do their own composting and grow organic vegetables. The property is on a knoll north of Churchville with trees and flowers framing the view.
Continue about 15 miles to Augusta Springs Wetlands to eat your own brown bag lunch at picnic tables. Enjoy at your own pace, the 2/3 mile walk around ponds and over wetlands on a boardwalk where you can spot reptiles and birds as well as late-blooming flowers. Bring your binoculars! (Yes, the area has a lavatory.)
Meet at 10:45 at the shopping center in Churchville located at the junction of US 250 and Va. 42. Most visible is the Liberty gas station but there are also the Riverside grocery store and a Dollar General in that complex. Entrance is on Highway 42 side. We will form carpools to the garden, but afterwards you may drive your own vehicle to Augusta Springs and depart as you wish. After leaving Augusta Springs, some of you may want to seize the opportunity to go about 20 miles farther south on 42 to Goshen in Rockbridge County to see the beautiful Goshen Pass.
Noon depart for Augusta Springs and lunch.
Return to Harrisonburg at approximately 4 p.m.
Register with the LLI office but there is no fee! If we need to cancel due to rain, an email will be sent that morining.
