S20C15 Transforming Your Yard Into a Food Paradise
This course will teach food gardening in late winter and early spring for both beginning and experienced growers. We will explore garden design and preparation, composting, seed starting and cold frame use, and fruit growing as landscaping. We will also learn how growing food enriches health and relationships, and reclaims valuable life skills that preserve the environment for future generations.
Dr. Donna Armstrong is a retired professor of epidemiology and public health who researched social and environmental sustainability, specifically focusing on food growing. After retiring, she farmed in Kentucky. She now practices Permaculture Design and urban food growing in Harrisonburg, VA.
