A9 The Shroud of Turin

Description: The Shroud of Turin is a robust and enduring mystery. It is either the burial shroud of Jesus Christ with a mysterious dual image that defies duplication, or the masterful work of an unknown artificer. The course will explore the evidence from all perspectives: science, history, medicine, archeology, and religion. The work of both supporters and critics of its authenticity will be presented. Scientific work will be explored ranging from the 1988 Carbon 14 result to more recent science that offers contrary evidence. All the evidence will be weighed and discussed.

Instructor: Dr. Ray Schneider became interested in the Shroud of Turin after attending a presentation on it in 1962. He became a shroud presenter and researcher when it was revealed in 1976 that the shroud has three dimensional information encoded in its image. Dr. Schneider has a B.S. in Physics, an M.S. in Engineering Science, and a Ph.D. in Information Technology. He has 35 years of experience as a researcher and coordinator of multidisciplinary science research teams and is now a Bridgewater College Professor Emeritus. He remains an active shroud researcher.

Suggested Reading: Any book on the shroud by Ian Wilson.
