Plants 360 - A Tonic of Wildness
Led by Jan Sievers Mahon, Director of the Edith J. Carrier Arboretum

April 14, 2016

"We need the tonic of wildness...At the same time that we are earnest to explore and learn all things, we require that all things be mysterious and unexplorable, that land and sea be infinitely wild....We can never have enough of nature." -Henry David Thoreau

Join Jan Sievers Mahon on an educational walk and talk through the arboretum. She will address the benefits plants and trees bring to our lives as well as the lives of birds, mammals and other creatures that share these natural habitats with us. Plants all around us talk. Learn about forest bathing, common ways plants are utilized today and the benefits of planting native species on your own property. Jan earned her Bachelor of Science in Horticulture at the University of West Virginia with graduate course work in entomology and water resource management. She was Horticulture Extention Agent for the City of Norfolk, Virginia Tech. As State Master Gardener Coordinator, Virginia Tech, she planned, organized, and conducted Master Gardener training for Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and Portsmouth. A Certified Arborist, Jan has been Director of EJC at JMU since 2007.
