This course will review beginning skills including binocular use and how to find and learn to identify birds. It will also offer opportunities for more advanced birders including identifying birds by sound and using smart phone apps to record sightings, bird sounds, and more.
Timed in the heart of spring migration, we expect to "meet" both returning breeders along with species that are passing through to more northern summering grounds. One two-hour classroom session will be followed by two four-hour morning field trips.

Required: binoculars and a birding field guide of your choice.

Please note: Students need to be prepared to walk 2-3 miles unassisted for a few hours on uneven terrain.

Diane Lepkowski, with a lifelong interest in nature, wildlife, and photography, is especially intrigued by birds. Since becoming a serious birder in 2009, Diane has used her photography to share her passion for enjoying, studying, and protecting our feathered friends. Diane is a Vice-President of both the Rockingham Bird Club and the Virginia Society of Ornithology.
