Is it spring yet? Discover Virginia's spring wildflowers at the State Arboretum. Bluebells, trilliums, orchids, and other spring wildflowers dapple the forest understory in welcome color after a long, drab winter. A short lecture will take place highlighting species interactions between spring, and the dependency in nature between these different species for survival and propagation. We will also address how humans interact and effect these natural cycles. After the lecture, we'll venture outdoors to practice wildflower
identification and to look for signs of spring across the arboretum. G.R. Thompson Wildlife Management Area is one of the richest botanical and fauna areas of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The 4,000-acre area located in Fauquier County has been relatively undisturbed throughout history, which contributes to the abundance of nature species. Visitors will encounter rare, sometimes endangered species of flowers, as well as beautiful plants native to the area. Both locations have rich and varied avian activity, especially in spring. Binoculars and cameras are highly recommended. Join facilitators, Nate and Sandy, for a
wonderous walking tour!

Note: This is an active Study Tour. Walking up to 1.5 miles over easy terrain is involved.
